Buttered Beans Recipe

I buy beans both ways, fresh and frozen. Generally I steam the fresh beans or use them in stir-frys. With frozen beans I usually boil them but if you’ve ever boiled beans you know they tend to lack any real flavor. Tonight I decided to try something a little new. I took my recipe for buttered corn (think KFC) and converted it (sans the seasonings) to fit with the beans. The outcome? only the most delicious boiled beans I’ve tasted. Even the very fussy bean hater in my house cleaned them off her plate.

The recipe is very simple and uses only 3 ingredients but it made such a big improvement. I served these as a side dish to my Chicken Kiev Balls and Oven Roasted Sweet Potato Wedges.

I boiled them for around 10 minutes and then took them off the heat and left them in the water while I finished cooking dinner.

I used McCain Baby Beans: Sweet & Tender. Skim Milk. Sea Salt. Salted Butter.


  • 2 Cups Frozen Green Beans
  • 1 tsp Skim Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1 Knob of Butter
  1. Place beans in pot of water.

  2. Add Milk & Salt

  3. Cook for desired cooking time.

  4. Strain beans.

  5. Add knob of butter and mix through.

  6. Serve
